Is the Amazona Guildingi under any threat?
- Hunting for food, trapping for the cage-bird trade and habitat loss were the principal causes of this species decline.
- Deforestation has been the result of forestry activities, the expansion of banana cultivation, charcoal production, the loss of nesting-trees felled by trappers seeking young birds for trade and natural events such as hurricanes and volcanoes.
- The introduction of the nine-banded armadillo, undermined large trees causing them to topple, reducing a large number of suitable nest trees.
Therefore, this species of bird is under threat.
REMEMBER;
- The Amazona Guildingi is the national bird of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
- The bird's plumage colors are unique to the island.
- The bird is an endangered species.
- We can avoid deforestation and other forestry activities to prevent the decline of the population of the bird.
